The Cooper Model 5700 is a full-size, handcrafted rimfire .22 built for hunters who firmly believe small-game rifles deserve the same reverence, refinement, and respect as the finest big-game firearms.
The Model 5700’s lineage is rooted in Arkansas, shaped by longtime Arkansas Game and Fish biologist Clifton Jackson and his close friendship with Dan Cooper. A devoted squirrel hunter, Jackson knew instinctively how a woods rifle should feel—how it should balance against a tree, slide along your support hand, and settle naturally when the moment comes. Together, they refined his vision of the ultimate squirrel rifle, one Jackson famously called the “Ferrari of squirrel guns.” That rifle became known as the Jackson Squirrel, and its philosophy lives on in the Model 5700.
At the heart of the rifle is a precision-machined 4140 steel receiver, squared and trued, mated to a hand-chambered stainless steel match barrel threaded directly into the receiver in true centerfire fashion. Left uncoated with a fine bead-blasted finish, the stainless barrel recalls an earlier era of premium rimfire rifles—when stainless steel was deliberately left visible as a mark of quality, precision, and pride in materials.
Feeding the action are tuned Anschütz magazines, chosen for their consistency and proven performance, with metal floorplates that further reflect the rifle’s refinement and intent.
The stock remains true to Jackson’s original vision. Crafted from select American walnut and finished entirely by hand, the smooth, uncheckered forend is intentionally left clean—allowing the rifle to slide naturally in the support hand when braced against trees, rocks and other natural terrain. The high-comb profile supports modern optics effortlessly, while discreet internal improvements—an aluminum bedding block and a steel reinforcement rod through the pistol grip—support a lifetime of use without altering the rifle’s character.
